Whether you’re looking for a keto potato substitute or simply need a low carb side dish to create more room for dessert, you’re in the right place. These crispy garlic parmesan roasted radishes are a legit potato side dish replacement, coming awfully close to the real deal.
Friend of the blog, Joe Duff, was first to turn me on to these with his how to make keto potatoes video. Radishes have never been an ingredient I reached for at the store, but I think that’s changed now. Because this entire recipe has just 225 calories and 13 grams of carbs!
How to Make Roasted Radishes in an Air Fryer
Now that I’ve convinced you to give roasted radishes a try, let’s get down to business. I’ve included a visual recipe walkthrough below and included a few ingredient notes and prep tips in the post below. If you’re feeling confident, there’s a printable recipe card at the bottom of the post.
Cut 12 ounces of radishes into equally sized pieces.
If you don’t have access to Trader Joe’s, that’s totally fine. You’ll just want to buy enough radishes to end up with about 12 ounces after trimming.
The only tip I have here is to make sure you’re quartering the large radishes, halving most of the radishes, and leaving any little baby radishes whole. Evenly sized pieces will ensure evenly roasted radishes.
Also, you’ll want to pick up two bags of radishes so you can make my low carb cheeseburger skillet.
Toss with 1/2 tablespoon of olive oil and air fry for 8 minutes at 400ºF.
Don’t worry, the seasoning is coming. Similar to my air fryer red potatoes and cajun fries, reserving the seasoning for the back half of roasting prevents anything from burning.
Crush a clove of garlic and mix with a 1/2 tablespoon of olive oil and a pinch of salt, red pepper, and parsley flakes.
In case you’re unfamiliar with crushing garlic and don’t have a garlic press, this is how I do it: Finely mince a clove of garlic and sprinkle a pinch of salt over the top. Drag the flat of a knife across the top of the garlic a few times, pressing hard against the cutting board, to create a paste.
Don’t worry about perfection here. And if you’re thinking about using garlic powder instead of freshly crushed garlic, I’m only judging you a little bit. For garlic powder, hold it out of the olive oil mixture and add it in with the grated parmesan later.
Side note: You could use some of my recipes like air fryer Greek potatoes or Mexican potatoes to change the seasoning of your roasted radishes.
Toss the air fried radishes with the garlic and olive oil mixture.
Already looking like roasted potatoes, right?
Add 2 tablespoons of grated parmesan, stirring to evenly coat the radishes.
Like I mentioned in my air fryer carrot fries recipe, the pre-grated, shelf stable parmesan tends to work best for things like these roasted radishes. Using freshly grated and shredded cheese is almost always the move, but this time the shortcut is the way.
And if you’re using garlic powder instead of crushed garlic, now would be the time to add it.
Don’t over mix your radishes once the parmesan is in the mix or you run the risk of it clumping together in spots.
Air fry for an additional 6-8 minutes at 400ºF until the roasted radishes are a crispy golden brown.
Every air fryer is different, so you’ll want to check on your roasted radishes early. Or at least keep a nose nearby to smell for any burning. Unless you’re into that sort of thing.
Serving Your Roasted Radishes
In case you need some serving ideas, here’s a handful of recipes that came to mind for pairing with your roasted radishes:
- spicy baked chicken thighs
- air fryer chicken nuggets
- pulled BBQ chicken
- garlic parmesan air fryer chicken tenders
- mustard balsamic chicken thighs
Well, that about does it. I’ve included notes for oven roasted radishes in the recipe card below. If you have any additional recipe questions I missed, feel free to leave a comment at the bottom of the post. And don’t forget to come back and let me know what you thought about your garlic parmesan roasted radishes in a recipe review!
Garlic Parmesan Air Fryer Roasted Radishes
How to make crispy parmesan and garlic roasted radishes in the air fryer or oven.
Ingredients
- 12 oz bag Radishes, trimmed and halved
- 1 Tbsp (16g) Olive Oil, divided
- 1 clove Garlic, crushed*
- Pinch of Kosher Salt
- 2 Tbsp (15g) Grated Parmesan
- 1/4 tsp Red Pepper and Parsley Flakes (optional)
Instructions
- Cut the radishes in half (quarter any extra large radishes) and toss with 1/2 Tbsp (8g) olive oil. Add the radishes to an air fryer basket and cook for 8 minutes at 400ºF.
- In the same bowl, add the remaining 1/2 Tbsp of olive oil, crushed garlic, salt, red pepper, and parsley flakes. Stir everything together.
- After 8 minutes in the air fryer, add the radishes back to the bowl with the olive oil mixture, tossing to evenly coat. Add the grated parmesan and stir everything together until the radishes are evenly coated in parmesan.
- Place the radishes back in the air fryer basket and cook for an additional 6-8 minutes at 400ºF until crispy golden brown.
Notes
*For crushed garlic, mince the clove of garlic and add a pinch of salt on top. Use the flat side of a knife's blade to press down on the garlic and drag across the cutting board. Repeat until a thick paste forms.
For Oven Roasted Radishes
Mix the halved radishes with all the olive oil, crushed garlic, red pepper, and parsley flakes before adding the parmesan. Bake for 20-25 minutes at 450ºF until crispy. For best results, use a similar method of baking the radishes on their own before tossing with seasoning.
To Double the Recipe
Double all the ingredients and follow the recipe as written, air frying the radishes for 10-12 minutes and shaking halfway through before adding all the seasoning ingredients and air frying an additional 6-10 minutes.

OMG THESE ARE SO GOOD!
I bought a whole radish bag and I thought the tasted so peppery and unbearably tingly and I was absolutely horrified with the though of having to eat the rest of the radishes.
Then I tried your recipe; the peppery taste was gone and it was just pure tasty and cheesy goodness! I ended up roasting half the bag in the airfryer, and it was gone in minutes! SOO GOOD THANK YOU!

I thought they were good. Reminded me more of root fries. Like a parsnip or turnip.
