This recipe combines a trio of Trader Joe’s products to make an easy high protein stir fry. Add TJ’s Cruciferous Crunch, Just Chicken, Thai Sweet Ginger sauce, and optional green onions to your grocery list and you’ll have everything you need.

Well, everything but a bag of frozen rice or riced cauliflower to serve it over. Can’t forget that!

Each serving of this chicken stir fry has 33g of protein, 28g of carbs, 13g of fat, and 360 calories. That leaves plenty of room for lots of rice and fun fixin’s.

Ingredient Notes

I recently published a recipe for high protein ramen that combines chopped rotisserie chicken with Bachan’s Japanese barbecue sauce in a hot pan to simultaneously heat the chicken and caramelize the sauce. It’s such an easy way to elevate an otherwise kinda boring protein. The charred bits of caramelization give grilled chicken vibes without the need for a grill.

This stir fry swaps rotisserie chicken for Trader Joe’s Just Chicken, which is just seasoned and cooked chicken, as the title suggests. And it swaps Bachan’s for Thai sweet ginger sauce. There are tons of fun Trader Joe’s sauces (and non-TJ’s sauces) you can play around with here.

cruciferous crunch collection, just chicken, green onion, lime, and Thai sweet ginger sauce from Trader Joe's

Oddly, the star of the show is the Cruciferous Crunch Collection. It’s a blend of chopped kale, green and red cabbage, brussels sprouts, and broccoli. I love all the texture, and the bitterness of the veggies balance nicely with the sweetness of the sauce.

In case they discontinue this product down the line, which they’re prone to doing with the things I love, you can totally make a homemade version with the individual components. Or swap it for choices like the TJ’s coleslaw mix in my honey garlic chicken noodle bowls or bok choy and peeled ginger in my spicy ginger noodles.

And I’ll also point out here that you can easily find replacements for all these ingredients beyond the walls of Trader Joe’s. Rotisserie chicken, shaved sprouts and cabbage + kale, and any Thai sweet chili sauce are in just about every grocery store.

I’ve included a few additional notes about serving sizes and nutrition facts in the printable recipe card below. I hope you enjoy this high protein Trader Joe’s recipe. If you do, reviewing the recipe is always appreciated.

On your way out, you may want to bookmark a few more recipes like this one. I make a lot of high protein meals with rotisserie chicken like fried rice, enchiladas, and even lasagna. Trader Joe’s Just Chicken would work perfectly in all of them.

Ingredients

  • 1/2 package, 8 oz Trader Joe’s Just Chicken, roughly chopped
  • 1/2 cup 120g Trader Joe’s Thai Sweet Ginger Sauce
  • 1 Tablespoon Olive Oil
  • 1/2 bag, 5 oz Trader Joe’s Cruciferous Crunch
  • 3 Green Onions, thinly sliced, white and green parts separated

For Serving

  • Frozen Rice or Riced Cauliflower
  • Toasted Sesame Seeds
  • Crunchy Chili Onion Sauce

Instructions

  • Mix the chopped chicken with the sweet ginger sauce. Set aside.
  • Add the olive oil to a nonstick pan over medium heat. Once hot, add the white parts of the green onion and the cruciferous crunch. Stir to coat in the oil and cook for 4-5 minutes until the veggies soften and begin to slightly char in spots.
  • Transfer the veggies to a bowl before adding the sauced chicken to the pan. Spread the chicken in an even layer and cook for 2-3 minutes until the sauce begins to caramelize on the bottom and the chicken is heated through.
  • Add the veggies to the pan and toss everything together. Garnish with the remaining sliced green onion and serve over rice.

Notes

You can double the recipe to use the full containers of the cruciferous crunch and chicken. I used the other halves to make pesto chicken salad focaccia sandwiches.

Non-TJ's Ingredient Swaps

  • Just Chicken – Any cooked chicken or rotisserie chicken.
  • Cruciferous Crunch Collection – Broccoli slaw, coleslaw mix, or homemade chopped/shaved kale, brussels sprouts, and cabbage.
  • Thai Sweet Ginger Sauce – Thai sweet chili sauce, Bachan's Japanese barbecue sauce, or any stir fry sauce.

Rice, Serving, and Nutrition Facts Notes

The nutrition facts listed are for the stir fry only. You can pair this recipe with one bag of frozen jasmine or basmati rice.
With 1/2 bag of basmati rice, each serving will have 540 calories, 37g protein, 69g carbs, and 13g fat.
I like mixing a bag of frozen riced cauliflower with frozen jasmine rice to bulk up the amount of rice in meals.

Love that this is a 2-for-1 special using the same ingredients from the focaccia sandwich. Two meals with two very different flavor profiles to keep things interesting.

Another hit recipe from Mason. I actually couldn’t find the Just Chicken, but used ground chicken instead. However, I think the main component here is the Thai Sweet Ginger Sauce! I had no idea this existed, and now it’s going to be a TJs staple. It’s a lighter, but still sweet option when you don’t want to go with teriyaki. I served mine with brown rice, and everything reheated nicely. Thank you!
